Thru axle nut

I managed to lose the nut off my front thru axle in transit the other day, and I'm struggling to find a replacement.
The bike is a 2018 Tifosi. I've been in touch with Chicken CycleKit (who make Tifosi bikes) and they said they didn't have the exact nut, but sent me one which they said would fit.

However, it turns out the replacement is smaller, so while the thread goes on the bolt OK, the nut is not held in place by the fork / frame, and is able to turn (see pics - one of the new nut next to the old one, the other of the nut in use, showing the gap between it and the hole in the frame).
Anybody know if this is a potential problem? Don't want the thing undoing itself as I ride!

I got back to Chicken CycleKit, and they said they can't help any further as they aren't able to find out any details of the thru axle on this bike, which seems odd considering they assembled and sold it just four years ago.
Anybody got any ideas on how to identify and source a proper replacement nut?

  • Have you tried contacting Tifosi directly? Their website has a page for odering parts.

If not then what does the fork look like where the insert goes? You might be able to find something generic that fits or can be "adapted" to fit? All the thru-axle bikes I've seen up close the front axle threads directly into a bonded insert in the fork.

Yep - Tifosi is just a trading name for Chicken Cyclokit

Had a look around... couple of things I've seen look like they could fit, but hard to tell without buying them. A bonded insert in the fork would make a lot more sense... think I might superglue the other one in place!
