2009 Fox Float RP2 7.25x2.0 - repair or replace?

hi all
I've a giant trance x2 2009, been sat in the garage last 3 years since I switched to E-MTB (getting old, bad knees etc). My son is now big enough for this bike, came to set it up for him, and found oil all over the shock and that area of the frame. Quick test ride - shock holds pressure, but has zero damping (like riding a pogo stick) so I'm assuming all oil gone from the piston.
as well as I can measure it, its 7.25" long with 2.0" travel. It could be 185mmx50mm but I think not given the age. Its eyelet not trunnion.

thoughts on the options - off to fox to see if they can rebuild it or try to find a replacement (2nd hand fine)? new eyelet mount in 185x50 seems to not exist - and wouldn't want to spend a fortune on a new one anyway given the age of the bike.

MTB: Giant Trance X2 2009 (yes, its a 26er. For twisty singletrack in woburn woods, it still rocks)
road: specialized tricross elite 2011
hybrid: giant roam 0 2014
garaged project: gt tempest 1998
borrowed: whoosh sirocco cdl e-bike

Send it for a service to pretty much any of the suspension service agents who will be able to breathe life into your shock. It is probably just the seals that have perished. There is no problem per se in it being old or not trunnion mounted.

Have a look around, but when I have looked, I found them to all give a similar service turn around and almost identical prices. You may find one that is located near you and you can take it to them and save on postage and packing.

None of them are near me, so I use TF Tuned because I have always found them to be very helpful indeed. They are always willing to help over the phone, so I recommend that you ring them up and ask them your questions, do not assume that your shock is a write-off! They also give a condition report and record what they have done. That will be very helpful if you come to sell the bike or shock.

The cost for a service will be £115. plus p&p

What I have discovered is that if the item is anything less than a standard service, then they contact you for a chat and to see if you want to proceed.

Your costs will be minimised if you remove the shock and clean it up before you send it. (Do not forget to remove all the air before removing the shock!)
