Not seen mention of this elsewhere, but sympathies to Katie and the families. Far too young, and an horrific experience for KA.

Didn't think Katie's year could get worse.

    Heartfelt sympathies to both families.

I saw this yesterday and was so shocked. He was on the local news the night before talking about winning the Scottish Championships.

Really popular and well known guy around here. So sad.

Thoughts with Katie, family and friends

Not very nice for all concerned. He'd only recently gone pro and was doing well. Sadly no warning for a very fit individual, perhaps all young athletes at all levels should be screened for underlying unknown issues.
Too many bikes according to Mrs O.

Poor poor Katie, my kid brother 39 died the same way just under a year ago. It hurts.

Very sad. I had heard of him a little but I didnt know that they were together.

Seize the day, hug your friends, call your mum etc.

Rab Wardell was a legend - he has loads of great stuff on youtube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZVAbtKgPYk This video about his FKT on the West Highland Way is really good. Well produced, well shot and lots of Rab, definitely worth watching.

I had plans to try and ride that in a day after watching his video in 2020.

A friend of mine from school died in the exact same way in her late 20s, 5 or 6 years ago now. Left behind a 3 year old.

what issues did he have? I guess if they were unknown we won't know.

I've had a couple of extensive tests before getting a medical cert. but as the doctor said, she could sign me off as in good health and I could keel over walking out of her surgery.

It can happen to anyone as you say.

    https://www.c-r-y.org.uk/ do good work.

What happened to Rab sounds exactly like what happened to many others. Out of nowhere - devastating.

Even if the issues are identified and you have access to top medical personel it still might not help - look at Nico Portal
