Morning all. Long parkrun today then family shizzle. Need to decide what day I'm not going to work as I reduce my working wk. Monday or a Friday ?. Taking OH out for a drink tonight.
Glorious sunshine again. Yesterday was the hottest here locally on record*. *That's my records, no idea what the official line is.
All that insulating I did keeps all the heat in. Woke up in the wee wee hours and was lying there thinking and I thought 'fu.ck, forgot to water the flowers and plants - they'll be wilting'. Got up to rectify that and was treated to a few shooting stars. Wonderful. Even Beans was pleased to see me.
Except a lot of people take Friday off / WFH judging by communter traffic volumes, well back in the pre C-word times, so make Monday night your Sunday night?
The Mrs was out early with the watering can doing the same now that the hose pipe ban in in round here.
Bloke from Sevenoaks Council came round to measure the guest room and check we had smoke alarms etc. We had to tick a box on a form asking if we want £350 a month for taking on our Ukrainian house guest. Hmm...tricky one, that.
Anyway, got a few minor jobs to do before it gets hot then will enjoy the sunshine for a bit.

For as long as i can remember (and that's going back almost 40 years) this kitchen, due to it's orientation and 1 south facing window with shadow from the hedge, is always cool. Right now, sat here, it's 26 deg c.

compromise, don't work either of them
Tempted, but that's for in another 12 months away. I've got 2 young lads that have to be brought up to speed abit more experience wise before that can happen. My head says worst day for any engineering role is normally a Monday after machines have spent a wkend standing hence avoid like the plague, but I'd feel guilty. The Friday works OK but as already pointed out a lot of people have Fridays off or finish at lunch so things can get busy. Few beers tonight with OH and toss a coin I suspect. Certainly looking forward to it.
What I have learned today: wandered down to town to collect a few bits at 2pm, not the smartest idea given it's well hot. Ah hah, get some proper local ice cream in a cone from this shop on the corner. I should have sat down somewhere to enjoy it; walking in heat while licking a cone ain't the best. Good ice cream though.
At only 57 I'm taking it easy for once. The industries I've worked in have always been hard work physically and mentally at times so it's time to slow down and enjoy life a bit more. Plus potentially I'll be the first male on my side to retire alive and in good health in at least 50yrs. Life's short enjoy it whilst you can.
Tryfan was reasonably cool, smart move going up/down the shaded side. The little hill down the road was like a corridor of fire, even looked a bit canary island-esque

That's one of the harder mountains in Wales that I love. Used to stop in the little bunkhouse in its shadow. Epic area especially in proper winter conditions.

Today: ride, relax, repeat.

Long(ish) bike ride and then different friends are over for a bbq
...and a cute kitten for the hell of it:
Semi retirement 10 years away at least. Add 5 for full (ish). 15 years ago I was young. It's a long time.

I think my current boss appreciates this more than the previous one.
Time to chill with cider and Prime Video. May watch MOTD later to watch Manure getting shafted.
