In praise of Laka

I managed to write off my almost new Trek Emonda SLR 7 in the Marmotte. Anyway, it was insured through Laka and the payment arrived in my account yesterday, less than 4 weeks after notifying them of the claim, including a referral to the underwriters due to the size of the claim and a few days delay getting the bike to the LBS for a crash damage report.

So, if you need to insure your bike, I can highly recommend Laka. I can't think of any way they could improve their service.

  • That sounds great.
What is their policy on Crit racing? Will they cover a bike damaged in a racing event crash?
  • Obviously you should confirm the small print to your own satisfaction, but my policy covered everything except negligence and professional racing in terms of the bike. It didn’t cover kit or liability.

Direct Line and Yellow Jersey looked good too in terms of cover but I liked Laka’s pricing structure of paying month by month.

That's not bad going. I've found Laka to be quite expensive compared to Bikmo though.

After I formally submitted my claim it took Bikmo 4 days to settle my claim and that was for a £4.5k payout.

    This is good to know.

I am currently looking for insurance for a cycling holiday - it's the 1st time I've flown with my bike & it seems a bit of a minefield.

The thought of the baggage handlers throwing the box around with me not having adequate insurance fills me with dread.
