Replacing Crankset and Bottom Bracket

Hi folks,
I won't tell you my complete tale of woe, suffice to say I decided to service my bottom bracket and it all went very wrong. I irreparably rounded the head on the bolt on the crank arm and after trying everything else, ended up having to get a pal to cut through the axel with a cutting disk.
This is the rounded bolt.
This is the axel afterwards.
So the net-net is that I need a new crankset and bottom bracket. The bike in question is a 2009 Specialized Tricross Sport Triple, featuring a 175mm FSA Tempo Triple 52/42/30 and a sealed cartridge, square taper, 68mm x 103mm bottom bracket.
So they don't make the FSA Tempo Triple anymore AFAIK, but I'd like to keep the bike as authenticate as possible so a new FSA crankset is preferred. I know the Shimano Tiagra Triple crankset would work perfectly here with the Shimano Tiagra Triple front derailleur on the Tricross, but I am hoping for an FSA option.
Can anyone recommend a FSA crankset, compatible Bottom Bracket and Bottom Bracket Tool for me. (compatible with both the bike the crankset )
Thanks,
Ray K

If you want to stick with the square taper BB then your options are limited I believe. Have spotted a Stronglight square taper chainset (52/46/32) at SJS for £98.

However if you switch to Shimano Hollowtech II BB then you have the option of the Sora triple (50/39/30) at £114
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/chainsets/165-shimano-sora-fcr3030-9-speed-hollowtech-ii-triple-chainset-503930t/
or the Tiagra at £124

Thanks arlowood,
This matches the research I was doing myself, it is exactly what I was thinking.
I was thinking about simply ordering the Tiagra Triple.
Is there any reason why I couldn't switch to the Hollowtech II - as I need new a BB in anycase.

Wasn't aware of the Stonglight - never heard of them, any good?0

1903 apparently.oxoman said:Stronglight have been going for a while and do some of the more obscure stuff thats no longer done. Ideal for touring and Audax bikes etc. I use Spa cycles normally for stronglight stuff.

No reason at all. Your square taper requires exactly the same threaded BB that will take the Hollowtech II BB so it would be a straight swap.RayKinsella said:Thanks arlowood,

I don't see a Stonglight option that is 100% compatible with the Tiagra Triple (or FSA Tempo Triple) with 175mm crank, 50-39-30T and a 130mm BCD. The closest I can see is the Impact Triple with a 175mm crank, 50-40-30T and a 130 BCD.
Can anyone see a Stronglight option exactly the same as the Tiagra Triple, or will the Impact Triple be close enough?
BTW - I didn't understand the reference to "1903", can you clarify what this means.0 -
There are lots of square taper BB's around.
A direct replacement https://chainreactioncycles.com/fsa-power-pro-bottom-bracket/rp-prod129925
Now your crank arm has been removed, it might be easier to extract the rounded bolt as most of the threads have been cut through. If not, you might be able to find a left crank arm on e-bay.
Most cranksets are crazy prices now.0 -

Wow, that's a long link! Anyway, something like this might save you some cash. Maybe you could remove the Trutativ decal if it bothered you.

I am starting to ask myself, can I just replace the cranks and the BB, but keep and reuse the sprockets.
I presume if the BCD of the cranks and the sprockets the same, I should be ok?0
