    Cav on the Armstrong podcast?!

Yeah. I think he's still friends with Hincapie

Great friends. Wiggins last night. They say stuff on there that doesn't get talked about in the usual interviews. Hence Cav sounding off about sprints. He was v.passionate. As to future winners, LaPorte was with Cofidis 8 yrs so was there for Ineos, UAE but JV got him and now he is at another level. Didn't Vinegaard post some insane time on Strava on a Spanish climb which prompted JV to look at him? He wasn't on anyone's radar. Only so many next big things though. Ullrich was one but only won one TdF. Makes me look at Froome with a new respect when you look what he achieved despite his trolley push position.

I think JV getting Laporte is the signing of the season. And another damning indictment of the continued failure of French teams/ cycling.

I suppose my point was that harking back to Sky days, the entire raison d'etre of the team was to win the Tour every year. That currently feels some way off for this team.

I think they have moved on a little. They realise that other teams have caught up and they no longer have the best GC rider, so they've diversified. This mirrors their sponsors in some respect. Ineos have their fingers in many pies, while Sky TV stick more to their core business.
They’ve also had a more serious tilt at the classics recently.

French teams need to move on from the past and look what others teams are doing re training, nutrition etc.

I think part of that is because - from a strictly British perspective - there's a smarter audience out there. When Sky started the expectation was that the Tour was the only race anyone had ever heard of, and whilst that's still true for a wider audience, there's a generation of cycling fans that started with that and have now spread out to following the classics, the other GTs etc.

Roglic to Ineos then ? Discussed on ES just now. Dan Lloyd thinks it makes sense - I suppose it does IF they think Roglic is a better prospect than Bernal.

He's 32, not exactly a move for the future. Maybe a stop gap but a bit short term.

32 would have been considered as entering their prime years not too long ago, now it's over the hill!

Yes fair point - they may see Roglic/Bernal as a genuine 2 pronged attack - I guess they can't magic a challenger to the big 2 out of thin air.

At the moment they have a number of riders who aren't quite good enough to win it - although Roglic is maybe a genuine challenger (the same could be said of Bernal) you'd want pretty good odds to bet on either.

If Ineos sent G and Roglic to the Tour as joint leaders the anxiety during the first week would be too much to bear.

Even if he wanted to leave, would Jumbo let him?

Bernal and Roglic tag team would be interesting

I wonder will INEOS rethink things.

Bring more firepower to the Tour to support (presumably/hopefully) Bernal

Might be a parting of genuine mutual agreement - he's a top 5 (?) grand tour contender in the same team as one of the top 2.

It's a difficult decision - do they throw everything at the Tour or target the Giro as the easier race to win.

Assuming Pogacar doesn't actually ride the Giro there must be a few teams/riders looking at this year's Tour and thinking Italy in the Spring might be nice.

Thanks for the heads up was pretty funny.

On sprinters being too tired to do the sprint “that’s the f@cking job”

    The rehabilitation continues….
