Hi, I’m looking for a chainring guard for the attached bike.
Can I just buy a 44T one, take off the largest chainring and put it there?
Thanks.

Yes you can, I have done exactly that.
I used a Blackspire Defender bash guard. The one I have fits 104 bcd (4 bolts), it is 5mm thick at the outer edge and is 170mm dia. The inner bits are 3mm thick, where the bolts go. It will guard up to a 40t ring. ie smaller than your old outer yet larger than your middle ring.

Once the outer ring is off; you take the pedal off and thread the bash guard over the crank and into place. It might take a bit of wiggling but it will go on. I had to add some small washers in between the bash guard and the spider to get the guard to sit in the right place. But no problem really. I used the same chainring bolts that held the big ring.

These bashguards are extremely robust, so you need worry no more about your chainring. Good luck finding one though.

I still have the one I used, for sale complete with the washers. See pics

As you can see in the second pic, it has defected a rock. The paint is scraped and the metal scratched, but the bashguard remains intact and still round.

  • I've sorted it now, thanks anyway.
