Helmets for round heads

Not metal armour but something in coated polystyrene. From motorbiking I know that helmets seem to be designed around oval pointy heads (typically Italian - Shark, AGV, Lazer) or round (Bell, Shoei, Arai). I'm more the latter.
Does this translate to push bike helmets too? Are some brands more known for being more one shape than another?
I find myself in need of a new lid. I've been using Mavic and before those a Bontrager. I've got a Giro that hasn't been used in ages and more recent ones I've tried didn't fit well or were cheaply made. What sort of shape are DHB and Kask?

Kask helmets in '17 didn't suit my "long" head at all, they were definitely "round" head design.

I settled on a Giro Savant that fits nicely and is still used for commutes. My Abus Gamechanger is a nice fit for oval heads, I price watched at Amazon for at least several weeks last autumn and got a bargain ~£72 bordeaux red.

The range at PlanetX is heavily round head biased, but https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/HECAKROTT/carnac-kronus-time-trial-helmet is an exception, got mine for £30.

I don't fit Kask, Giro or Met, so maybe that means I have a long head?

Scott and Lazer helmets do fit me well though - the retention system on the Lazers I thought lent itself to cater for a pretty wide set of head shapes, although I was super disappointed with the latest Genesis, as per a couple of reviews, the centre 'strut' of the helmet, kind of sticks out, and stands proud, so it was impossible to get a good fit, REALLY odd design, and arguably a flaw.

Shame, as I swore by (not at) them prior to this helmet, I was able to send it back for a refund of course.

I'd be inclined to find a few likely candidates, and choose somewhere with free returns, CRC, Tredz, Sigma etc, and then try them on at home to compare and contrast.

You could reduce the number you need to order as long as you know your approximate bonce circumference, which I suspect you do.

Do update with what you end up going for :-)

POC are good for long heads and Kask for round heads in my experience

Arai on motorbike, Uvex on bicycle - aero jobbie, really fits my head nicely.

Had a couple of others before that were so meh I can't even remrmber what they are.

Managed a quick spin past Westbrook's yesterday and tried a couple on. Not a lot of road lids in the shop tbh, at least at the 'affordable' end. Found a nice Scott but it's a bit too commuter/hybrid. Tried a couple of Kasks and they aren't bad - good shout on them. Waiting on getting an Endura in to try for comparison.

The Carnac stuff from Planet X is meant to be very good if you don't mind a bit of postal faffing

  • I would agree the Carnac helmets are pretty round fitting.
