Carrera Kraken Crank arm threaded :-(

Hi all
My mate has a Carrera Kraken which is in really good condition considering its 10+ years old.
Unfortunately one of the crank arms has threaded where the pedal screws in & apparently he is unable to cycle with just one pedal (low moral fibre if you ask me!!).
What would be a cost effective replacement for thIs crank arm? Would he have to buy a complete crank set & if so what set?
A link to what he needs to buy would be really appreciated as I'm no expert (& he knows even less).
The bike is only used for pootling along trails so nothing high performance required (cheap & cheerful would do).

try and re tap thread either by using a tap or dometimes screwing a pedal in from the "wrong" side works or Helicoil from LBS or any old crank arm the same length painted black..
The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.
