Shorts that aren’t as fitted/revealing as Lycra

I’m looking for shorts on the cheaper end of the scale as I’m hoping these shorts won’t fit me in the near future. I’d like ones that aren’t as fitted as lycra. Any recommendations for road cycling?

Road cycling shorts are usually tight fitting and mountain bike shorts are usually baggy - often consisting of a separate inner padded short with an outer pair of baggy shorts worn over the top.

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in and fits in your price point.

Look at mountain bike shorts, some have padded inner liners, some are unpadded.

It sound like so-called "touring shorts" to me.
They are usually a closer fit than MTB baggies.
    Example: https://alpkit.com/products/strada-mens-shorts

If you want padding, there are padded undies that you can use (I don't bother, M&S are good enough).

I have a pair of endura Humvees and some Pearl Izumi shorts that have a padded liner - not as padded as proper bib shorts but fine for my commute (bit over an hour ech way) and with the advantage that i don't look like a wierd mamil type when I arrave to site. The pearl izumi ones are slightly more fitted with stretchy material, probably more suited to road cycling - I'll see if they still have the label in when I get home.

For gravel or MTB rides I typically wear MTB shorts over some road bibs but I have used ordinary cargo shorts or even some old denim shorts so as above you don't need anything cycle specific.

Cheapo DHB bibs plus a pair of “shy’s” over the top.

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

If you are worried what your Lycra shorts are revealing, a pair of socks shoved down the front covers all bases.

I would also suggest this other than when I wear bibs with MTB baggies over the top the baggies constantly need pulling up so make sure you have a belt on the over shorts.

This solution will help reduce the risk of saddle sores (if you go commando) as opposed to other suggestions of wearing ordinary underwear.

Wear your lycra shorts and stand in front of a mirror every morning. If you dont like what you see stop eating crap and ride your bike more. It will not be long before you look in the mirror and smile. Believe me I have been there.

I had forgotten I posted this question. Going to decathlon to buy some XXL big shorts and will gab some of those alpkit strada shorts (or similar).. plus a couple of pairs of socks... and a cucumber.
