Disc vs Rim?

What are advantages to going disc just want it laid out in front of me

    More power, far better modulation meaning you can brake harder without locking a wheel which is vital off road, the advantages oxo mentioned around mud (even in the height of summer you can get muddy parts on the trails), lower maintenance and nowadays much better availability of parts since MTBs have been basically exclusively using discs for about 20 years. Finding frames, forks and wheels for rim brakes will actually be quite a challenge above the lowest end stuff.
