11 speed freehub and cassette compatibility

I have some bitex hubs with an 11speed hub and a SRAM 11-36 PG1130 cassette. I have been running this combination since April '19 and always found it hard to do the lockring up as the 11t of the cassette overhangs the freehub. (It's an 11t compatible freehub where the splines end slightly short of the end of the freehub )
While refitting the same cassette to the same hub recently I managed to strip the threads of the freehub out when trying to tighten the lockring. I've order a new freehub and it arrived and obviously looks the same. I took this opportunity to inspect the freehub/cassette more closely as I am shy of stripping the threads again. It seems that with the 11t overhang there is perhaps less than 1mm of lockring threads actually engaged in the freehub. In fact I have a very slightly shorter cassette lockring which just doesn't engage at all. So, in short, are some 11speed cassettes not compatible with some 11speed freehubs? I am doing King Alfred's Way next week and now getting the heebie jeebies about running my existing set up despite having done it for 3years.

Have you tried a Shimano cassette on your hub to see if you get more thread available. Might be worth borrowing one just to check.

I have one on another bike, I may try that. Though unfortunately it's not a big enough cassette to get by on a 1x drive so no good to use next week.webboo said:Have you tried a Shimano cassette on your hub to see if you get more thread available. Might be worth borrowing one just to check.

just a thought... you don't still have the spacer on the freehub do you? 11s may be supplied with one for 10s compatibility
otherwise, if there's a decent bike shop nearby, see if they've got a lockring with longer threaded section in their parts bin (some makes are longer than others)my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
No spacer on and the correct spacers between each cog.0
