New chainset on old Spec Sirrus 2008

I need to change the chainset on my old Specialised Sirrus which I use for commuting. Two of the chainrings are so worn that they need replacing. Can't seen any manufacturer on it, but it's a 48x38x28 with a Sugino XD crankset. My bb is 116mm, and I've seen someone on Facebook selling a new shimano chainset; however, the spindle length is 122.5mm. Will this make a huge difference to the fit, or should I not bother with this and try to find something which will fit the 116mm bb instead?
My knowledge of some bike work is amateur at best so thought I'd pick the brains of those who reallly now.
Cheers

The spindle length required is dictated by the crankset, not the frame (barring strange things like fat bikes etc). If you get a crankset requiring a 122.5mm spindle, fit a BB with that spindle and it will be fine. This is why newer cranks with integrated spindles work, the frame doesn't dictate what you need.0
