Removing Spacers Under Stem

  • For anyone that's interested had a ride with 1 spacer removed today & have to say I felt really uncomfortable.

Didn't think it would make that much difference & maybe some of it is psychological but I did feel a bit more stretched out.

I was going to suggest earlier but slipped my mind. 10mm did seem like a big step, I usually start in 5mm increments whenever I am changing position on any part of the bike.

As you suggest, you will know after a few rides whether or not it is a viable position for you.

Obviously we all have different size and fit requirements specific to our own body, personally I have found over the years that the two things which changed as I got fitter and more flexible were saddle height (increased) and stack height (lowered).

One other area that has been relevant for me is setback on the seatpost. I switched to a zero setback post years ago and it works much better but I appreciate it may not be right for others.
