PTP 2022
Welcome to the 18th Annual PTP Competition
Sorry for the delay in getting this up - February was quite the month! Thank you red.rider and twotoebenny for getting the first few threads up. Am happy to maintain the master spreadsheet, and I've allocated races (broadly similar to last year) to those that volunteered. You know the drill!

How to Play
Playing along with PTP is extremely simple - you don't have to sign up or join anything other than the Bikeradar forums. If you're already a member here, that means you're already eligible to play.
A few days before each of the chosen races, a PTP thread will be started in the Pro Race forum. That thread will contain a selection of useful links - start lists, race maps, past winners and so on. All you have to do is consider who you think is likely to win and post their name in that thread. It's that simple. If the race in question is a stage-race, you also get to predict the daily stage winners.
Post your pick in the relevant PTP thread before the cut off. If you change your mind then please post as a new post rather than editing your old post.
As you play, your scores will be added up and the overall season rankings will be updated in this thread. I'm dropping the spring classics mini-championship as I don't get the impression there is much interest and its a faff to sort - especially if races start getting moved around.

Doping
Points are finalised once the race organisations publishes their results. No adjustments will be made if it later emerges that a rider has failed a drugs test or if a rider has wins retrospectively removed from their palmares.
Prediction Cut-off
Always the contentious one! The cut off is 12pm (noon) on the day of the race. This is strict so predictions at 12.01 won't be counted (exceptions made for split-stages, evening prologues etc). No GC selections will be accepted once a stage-race has begun.

What is/was the criteria for which races count? Thought it was just WT level but some are missing and some that are there are Pro lvl. Pure interest as a newcomer to the PTP.0
-
The whole thing was started in 2005 or 2006 by a guy called Andy Dunn. It might have been back when this was the C+ forum. My first post was picking Cancellara to win the 2006 Paris-Roubaix (and he did!)JimD666 said:What is/was the criteria for which races count? Back then the World Tour was called the Pro Tour - hence PTP. What was on the Pro Tour was a little different. Paris-Tours for example was in and has stayed on the PTP calendar ever since, maybe because it keeps more points to the end.
Het Nieuwsblad was not Pro Tour but was included as the traditional season opener. I think KBK is a fairly new addition. The traditional Het Volk to Lombardia season is a reflection that a lot of us are middle aged.
What was on TV was a big consideration. Catalunya wasn't on TV back then and is still excluded as a result. The Basque Tour had poor coverage and it clashed with a lot of the classics, so wasn't in.
The calendar changes. Strade Bianche was a low level race to begin with but became popular and filled a gap. The Tour of Britain used to be included but then clashed with the Vuelta. I think Tirreno wasn't for a period as it clashed with Paris-Nice.
Another historical titbit. The doping rule wasn't originally there, but was added due to points having to be redistributed after Landis's Tour DQ in 2006. It used to be known as the Landis rule.Twitter: @RichN953 -
Frankly I was expecting an answer along the lines of "Because".
A full potted history? Blimey. Many thanks 👍0 -
Finally got an evening free to work through the scores! Been hectic on a variety of fronts so my apologies. And thank you to everyone who has picked up PTP and run with it over the last few races.
Ahead of the first monument I've updated the spreadsheet with the scores after five rounds.
Some familiar names in the top 10 along with a couple of new ones (welcome JimD666). Glad to see that TheBIgBean and I keep our competition going...

I'm new to this but just thought I'd say thankyou for all the hard work in running this - looks like it could be quite good fun to win over the next season..
The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

I note its TheBigBean's best result (at least since 2016) and my worst...
A huge thank you to all the players and scorers!
Finally, after seven years of coordinating the show I'm looking to hand the baton over to someone else. Work has stepped up a notch the year and I'm afraid I just can't give PTP the time and attention needed. We've got until February to think of a solution...1 -
Thanks to all for organising and scoring.
Well done m.r.m.0 -
Congrats m.r.m, at least archieboy gave you a bit of a challlenge!
Another post-mortem required to work out where I managed to fall behind.
Thanks dish_dash for your organisational skills over the last 7 years. PTP always gives me a bit of extra interest and enjoyment. I’m happy to help run things next year.0 -
Thank you everyone for scoring and @dish_dash for 7 years of awesomeness. Congrats to @archieboy and @Dorset_Boy.
Was quite the surprising PTP season with (somewhat) surprising winners in all 3 grand tours as well as in many of the monuments. I think next season is going to be even more fun with all the riders of the new generation truly coming into their prime.PTP Champion 2019, 2022 & 20230 -
Hadn't realised I was so close to the podium lol much the same as Dish new job new life means less involvement in all things cycling.
Thanks to everyone for scoring and taking part.0 -
Huge thank you to all the scorers and others behind the scenes that make it work.
Congratulations to MRM!
Really didn't think I was doing very well this year so third is a surprise!0 -
