Gravel/CX frame

With the likely demise of the old Steelie, I may now be in the market for a CX type frame, as I've got that bug and it's a good all round bike style. Want something metal (Al or Steel), not too much money, ideally good fun on road, so none of these daft MTB-in-disguise frames.
It's just a hill. Get over it.

Obvious question - are you sure that the G2 bike is built using the G2x frame...?
Frame states "Malt G2X features flat-mounts for disc brakes and internal cable routing for brake and gear cables" whereas the bike looks to have external routing...0 -
I'm thinking of picking up a Malt G2x frame later this week so may be able to report back.
It looks to me as though the G2x is drilled for internal routing but the G2 is drilled for an external bolt on cable guide. I'm guessing you could mount the front derailleur to the G2x but not get a cable to it.0 -
The current frame seems to have been updated since the photos on the website and the road.cc review. The cable entry ports on the downtube are different. They are now removable inserts (2mm hex). The left port has two holes but neither seems set up for a cable ferrule. The port in the right is and is for running a cable to the rear derailleur.
The underside of the BB shell is tapped for a cable guide but one wasn't supplied with the frame.
I think it might well be possible to run a full length of housing to a compatible band on front derailleur.
