Dura ACE 9100 Power meter (1-sided) on R9200 groupset? Any downsides?

Hi everyone,

I am in the process of building my dream bike and I am getting closer, only thing missing is the power meter :)

I have fitted the bike with the new R9200 Dura Ace groupset. The matching power meter R9200 is not released yet unfortunately, so I was wondering if there would be ay issue/ downside if I just get the previous version (9100).

The only thing that is slightly different is the look from my understanding.

This is the power meter I am considering

Stages Cycling
G3 Power L Shimano Dura Ace 9100 Road Crank Arm

I even get a quite good discount on it and I would like the bike to be ready and complete when I pick it up.

Anyone seeing any issue with just getting the previous version instead of waiting for the 9200?

Thanks for your replies!

Best,
T

    Well its mismatched, isn't it?

you're gonna spend all that cash on 9200 then lob some mismatched power meter on,?

just wait for the matching one.

    it'll be mismatched otherwise.

And surely you want dual sided recording not single sided as you will have an imbalance between legs.

No downside except looks. Will still read the same as on 9100.

The bike is custom build and due to my wider hips, I have special pedals which are wider apart and so dual sided is not an option that is easy to realise.

I looked at the 9200 one and the only thing that is literally different is the Dura Ace lettering. Other than that is really the same, so I am inbetween chairs really….

Why not go for power pedals, and use Shimano Ultegra pedals with the Favero Assimo Duo Shi inserts which have a wider Q-factor.

+1 for double-sided measurement using the Favero Assimos. I have a Stages G3 and the readings can be a bit wild sometimes.

Yes will read fine, but that would bug me too much on a 9200 bike long term.

I'd go that rout if I was planning to trickle it down to another bike in the future, or sell it on.
    Felt F70 05 (Turbo)
Marin Palisades Trail 91 and 06
    Scott CR1 SL 12
    Cannondale Synapse Adventure 15 & 16 Di2
    Scott Foil 18

I have another bike with a Ultegra Di2 groupset, I guess I could potentially use it on this one if the crank arm lenght is the same? Would be a mismatch as well but I wouldn’t care for the other bike tbh.

Just seems a a massive chunk of cash spent for no reason tbh.

just wait for the proper one.

A power meter needs to be consistent. Currently the shimano crankset pm's are not (including non shimano pm's which use a shimano chainset). Have a read through Shane millers website or watch his videos on YouTube. His initial testing indicates the new shimano cranks still have the same issues. Therefore I would consider another option if you want dual power.

Of course, if you're happy with one sided power only then a crank arm pm wouldn't have the problem to the same extent. In this case though, given the money you're investing in the bike and components I would just be patient and wait for the matching one to be available.
  • Thanks everyone :) I am going to wait for the 9200

  • So…
    - Dura Ace R 9270
    - S-Works SL 7 Frame (Fluid)
    - Roval Rapide CLX Disc with white lettering
    - Ceramic Speed System
    - Power Mirror Saddle
    - ceramic bottom bracket
    - Tan GP 5000s

    - Extra wide dura ace pedals for my wide hips :D (thats why the power meter in the pedals is not an option)

    - Roval Rapide Handlebar (also wider for my body shape) + tape with skulls

Really exited about it and it’s getting closer :)
