Minimum tyre width for a wheel that is 22mm wide internally
the new spokesman wheels I had built are 22mm wide internally, and yes it is definitely internal.
I'm planning, and have indeed bought 28mm GP5000s to fit on them, but am just slightly doubting whether that will be ok.
I believe 30s are recommended, but I'm happier on the 28s (I'm fairly light, so can still go fairly low psi)
Various charts I have found seem to make zero sense, like this one that states I'd need something like a 37!
I could easily sell these tyres and move up to 30s, or I could try the 28s, but I guess if I damage the rims I'll be kicking myself.
I'll be running with latex tubes.
Thanks
Dan

Iirc the 29er wheelset for my fatbike was ~20mm internal, 25mm Grand Sport Race that really measured ~27mm was a struggle to fit on.
GP5000s size up ~1mm iirc except for the 32mm variant that sizes down ~1mm.
Maybe try a Marathon Supreme if you bought a 35mm that will size down to ~33mm, to see how it fits and rides?================

I’m pretty sure the ETRTO standard, that this table is pulled from, was recently updated.Ben

Ah no this is for the Scott Addict RC30, not the gravel bike, so the very widest I would want on would be 30s, but 28s would be my strong preference.N0bodyOfTheGoat said:Iirc the 29er wheelset for my fatbike was ~20mm internal, 25mm Grand Sport Race that really measured ~27mm was a struggle to fit on.

I do have some 40mm (I think) Marathon supremes bought for the gravel bike though coincidentally.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

This is what Schwalbe have to say...

A year or so ago, Mavic did some research for ETRTO, surrounding internal rim width; tyre widths, tubeless/tubed/hooked; and tyre pressures. That article has disappeared (formally published by ETRTO?) and I don't have access to the ETRTO documents... but from what I recall, Schwalbe seem to be in agreement.Ben

Glad I could help. Anecdotally, my most recent wheels (Cero RC50s and some handbuilt on DT Swiss rims) are 19mm and 18mm internal rim width, respectively. I run 23mm and 25mm tyres depending what I can get my hands on.Ben
