Tekno Brakes & Shimano Brifters
I reckon I know the answer but…..
Looking at going Gravel bike route, I’ve seen a bike, a nice looking Trek, but it has a flat bar, normal brake hybrid flat bar brakes (hydraulic) and separate shifters. So if I kept the disc brakes and cables and bought some hydraulic Shimano brifters, will they be compatible? Eg will the hydraulic cables fit the Shimano brifters and will the brakes even work?
The derailleurs will be a certain change out.

With the amount you would have to change (even if they are compatible), unless you are getting the bike for free, it will likely be a lot cheaper to just buy a drop bar bike from the start.
As it stands, you are going to need new:
dropbars
stem
Shifters
Possibly derailleurs (if changing number of gears on bike)
crankset (if changing number of gears on bike)
wheels (if they are only 10 speed compatible)
Edit: If you really like the bike, you could consider attaching some aero bars on the handbars. Then you have the wide bars for rough terrain and can go in an aero position on the tarmac.0 -
When you put it like that, you’re absolutely right. Great advice, thanks.0
