I have mixed feelings about (motor)bikes.
On one hand, silly, impractical and dangerous.
On the other...fun! (Although I confess I have never really ridden one).
So what's your take? How hard/risky is riding? Costs??

    PS: Mid-life crisis? Probably.

If you really feel the need to get one then do I know a few people who have taken up riding in their 40's and are loving it, I have been riding one for 30 years now and had a lot of great times on one, have toured through Europe quite a few times and have gone to see a Moto GP race on some trips, buy yourself some decent riding gear it may cost more but it is worth it, most mid-sized bikes now are enough now for a lot of riders
may be a mid-life crisis but we are only here once

I'm sure the multitudes of fat germans we see at the top of alpine cols never rider their GS1200s above 40 mph.

I used to take them in a old van pulling a bike trailer...

Reminds me of cresting Galibier just as some bikers were high 5'ing themselves.
    The accomplishment! 👏👏👏 🤬

  • Great achievement! Your daughter?

    Next up… a challenge! 🙂

I’ve friends who have toured on motorbikes through that area and they all had altitude sickness to some extent. Can’t fathom how riding a bike is possible up there.

Yes nearly 10 years ago - he's not interested in bikes now.

Ps - it's my son! He was about 11 at the time.

Same tour we were constantly passing a family of 4 who were obviously doing longer days. Kudos went to the 8-9 year old girl who was always smiling but I felt sorry for the father who was carrying all the camping gear.

we did that trek years ago as a warm to some proper stuff.

its a nice walk, nothing more. din't believe the hype about it being mad difficult.

on a bike the problem you would have is having to carry on some parts as its tracks.

tbh, that piccie is just a bit of trendy instagram "oooh, look how great i am" rather than an actual achievement.

Supermoto is what you need for thrills at road legal speeds, if i were in the market for a summer fun bike, it would be a supermoto.

    this, totes.

i really, really an utterly mad impractical two stroke 250 MX bike with supermoto wheels and wets.

Panigale, 'Blade, etc are just far too serious unless you've got some decent track time.

The 5 hour service intervals put me off a road going 2 stroke MX bike but this has intrigued me. Light, quiet, enough torque to stop the earth from spinning. I could have some serious fun on this bike...

  • Closest I had too a motorbike was on old moped I found in my Grandad's house , when I was a teenager, that I got running and did circuits round our (luckily large!) garden.
Never had a real urge to try a proper one, fortunately.

that has the potential to be utterly amazing - complete pointless laugh.
    v v v v cool.

would be sad not to have the 2 stroke smell kicking around but i suppose you have to make some cut backs to be able to silently wheelie past police stations.....
