Fulcrum OEM wheels unable to remove freehub
My 1 and only bike has a set of 650b Fulcrum Rapid Red 900 OEM wheels that came with the bike. Anyway the rear wheel hub sounds a bit rough so I thought I could whip the freehub off and see what was going on.
For the life of me I cannot see anyway of removing the free hub from these wheels, there are no flats on the axles nor are there any lockrings/allen bolts.
I know the 900 series is OEM so is very basic but they are otherwise straight and true and not mega heavy so don't really want to consign the wheels to the skip but I would like to see if I can get a look what is going on.
It seems most non-OEM Fulcrum wheels have a lock ring that you remove with a hub spanner but these seem to be completely sealed.
Is this the case are they really completely non-user servicable?

Don't the caps just pull off ?
Normally need clamped in an axle vice then pull up if there's nothing that unscrews ,
Do you have a pic ?0 -
What brand hubs are they? Their website doesn't say. I had similar issue, Formula brand hubs, unserviceable, wheels replaced under warranty.0

Does this look similar ?

Thanks for replies, the pic is not the saem as on my wheels. You have the lock ring thing. I dont have that.
Gonna email Fulcrum see what they say. Will report back0 -
Update - Just found maintenance card for all wheels on their website (dunno why could not find before?) but it looks like I have to use pliers as trevor.hall12 suggested.
I just find it bad design that you have to essentially used pliers to get at the wheel. I know this is a budget set of wheels but that just seems a very crude way to engineer something.
Anyway will give it a go , if it works great if not then next wheelset is gonna have Shimano hubs - I know where I stand with cup and cone.0 -
The later Fulcrums have cones and you can fully dismantle them quite easily but the fine threaded locking ring adjustment takes a while to get right.mr_eddy said:Update - Just found maintenance card for all wheels on their website (dunno why could not find before?) but it looks like I have to use pliers as trevor.hall12 suggested.
