I see that Cycling News has gone to subscription. I'm not sure how that will work out for them. They seemed to be a mostly clickbait site with instant news copied from other media sources. There was little in depth or original writing.

I get the headline page as normal but if I click on something to read the full article. I can only see the first few lines as there is a banner across the rest of the article saying you have read 5 articles for free this month. To continue reading you can pay a subscription of etc.

I noticed anything on the Dutch or Belgian world was just a direct translation (not always great) from the local reporting.
  • There is now a thread in the CN forum on this. As yet, not many contributions although one mentions a Javascript reboot:

    https://forum.cyclingnews.com/threads/is-this-a-paywall-website-now.37413/

I am not getting any subscription messages either.
I have checked by clicking on more than 5 and so far, no problems.

I'm struggling to think of a reason to pay for Cycling News honestly...

Does that imply you're gonna scam them somehow? :)

CN clickbait is bad value for money when free. 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Still getting access and I’ve read an awful lot more than that in the last 2 days
  • Reading further posts on CN and it seems that if one clears cookies, or has (I do) an ad blocker, the message will disappear.

Can recommend google translating the sporza wielrennen section for a similar, albeit free, experience.

Similar for Wielerflits, either the Belgian or Dutch site.

Looks like Cycling Tips have now gone down the subscription route, which is not a surprise since they're now owned by Outside. Surely only a matter of time before Pinkbike do the same.

I haven't noticed any change with cyclingnews. I have AdBlock and Adguard though. Maybe those help.

I've given up on Cylingnews now, don't think there's anything there that won't get picked up elsewhere if it's interesting.

Does it not just focus mainly on the Irish scene?
  • Not solely there is continental pro stuff on there
  • Back on CN... after the first month at £1, how much is the sub does anyone know?

What sub? I still can access via iOS on iPad CyclingNews on what seems to be current posts like a normal website.
