I’m fairly sure you’ve been his biggest fanboy over any posts about Lance. It’s usually the reason you appear, someone slags him off and up you pop to defend him.dennisn said:

Lance looked behind him to see what was happening. Much like all of us have done many times. Only in the cycling mind can something like this be made into the stuff of legend. It was nothing, made out to be some special moment in the cosmos by God knows who or why. And oddly enough, EVERYONE bought it. Sad.ddraver said:0 -
I doubt that I've ever been one way or the other about LA. Never said he was this great, caring person or that he was a dope addled monster. Never cared. Don't know him personally like most, on here, seem to profess. Actually I believe he became the celebrity that he is, not because of what he did or didn't do, but because of the publicity, both good and bad, that the fans of cycling put out there on sites like this. Had people simply ignored him he would have simply faded into just one of those people in the past. Besides most people on these cycling sites love this kind of stuff.webboo said:

Irony alert...The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Ah but Americans don't do irony, so it's perfectly acceptable for Dennis to continue to post sad Lancey stuff then in the next breath claim he would have faded away, if folks didn't continue to post sad Lancey stuff.pblakeney said:Irony alert...

…or watch him on Letterman, or on the Nike Super Bowl ads, or see him dating Sheryl Crow at NBA, or be best mates with Hollywood A-listers. Other than that, if only Pro Race Forum hadn’t bigged him up so much - he’d have just disappeared!
His PR team were awful - never capitalised on his true market value. He must be down to his last $100 mill. poor bastard. Now he’s obliged to hang around with riders that people actually liked - George Hincapie and Jan Ullrich…0 -

I might be wrong, but isn't the majority of his wealth these days a result of a very early investment in Uber? I thought he lost most of his cycling earnings after the court cases.ocdupalais said:…or watch him on Letterman, or on the Nike Super Bowl ads, or see him dating Sheryl Crow at NBA, or be best mates with Hollywood A-listers. If you knew him personally then:
A) He's such a great guy , what a friend, what a personality, always eager to lend a helping hand or listen or talk - no way he's a lying, cheating, manipulative, control freak, He's too nice for that.
B') Yeah, I know him well - the guy is an @ss. He never put my bin out when I was on vacation once in 20 years of living next door and he rarely said 'hello' He's a lying, cheating, manipulative, control freak.

I think he has invested well throughout his career thanks to Thom Wiesel, a tech industry investor who owned the US Postal team.Twitter: @RichN950 -
Well, I think pretty much all of us would be glad to accept a big wad of money from people, who worshipped the ground we walk on, just to spend a holiday with us. Lord knows there are plenty of celeb addict's out there willing to pay bunches to get close to their heroes.pblakeney said:

That's a big IF. But if I knew him I would probably have an opinion. As is he seemed to be one hell of a bike racer. Nothing wrong with that. In any case I'll let ya know if I happen to cross paths with him and share a few beers.pinno said:

Is "he seemed to be one hell of a bike racer" not an opinion?
Or is that fact? Asking for a friend1 -

So...how are we feeling about this..?

When any of Ullrich, Zulle, Kloden, Beloki or Basso claims to be the rightful winner of those Tours (as Schleck does of his), then maybe they will have a point. But it's been a decade of silence from them.0 -
It's so stupid that grown up people can't just put an asterisk on the name of the actual winner and simply state that "it's there because while he did win, he cheated in order to do so".
Solves absolutely everything. Goes for Baseball or any other sport. It's so stupid to act like reality didn't happen.PTP Champion 2019, 2022 & 20232 -
I don't think too manty people would argue about his abilities on the bike. You seem to be all about his personality or lack of. Not sure how you know that but... In any case he is who he is, just like you and I. I may or may not b an .sshole but I do take a sort of perverse pleasure in picking at scabs and this is a great place for that.takethehighroad said:I'll go there

Anyhow, getting back to the reason we have this thread.
This weekend, (today) Jan Ullrich was joined by Joseba Beloki, Alberto Contador and Oscar Freire at the Gran Fondo Mallorca.

I'd look at his choice of friends.
Are they helping or hindering? Could easily be either. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

that was my thought. Lets go partying, the drinks flow, the weather is lovely etc. Only needs one to say 'come on, where is the harm?'0

The star, the ex-star, the big guy, the celebrity draw, have a drink, let's party?pblakeney said:I'd look at his choice of friends.

So sad that Ullrich is in this state.
Hope he can find some peace somehow0 -
An advertising clip for a new documentary about Jan Ullrich has just been released. The whole documentary to become available at the end of November.
In it he says „For me to have earlier said, I was not cheating anyone was wrong. At the time, my doping was geared towards my opponents, but of course the fans are also part of the scene."
The clip also covers him speaking of his subsequent days with lots of cocaine and drinking whisky like water.
He is again living in Merdingen, not far from Freiburg in SW Germany, where he lived during his hey-day – a return to his youth?0
