    That "Not the Nine O'clock news" sketch finished TV darts almost overnight when it was first shown. The sponsors all dropped it, and it's taken a long while to recover.

    It may have done some damage but the BBC expanded coverage of the sport the year after it screened (1980) and the early 80s were years of growth for the sport - Bristow, Lowe, Wilson, Deller et al
