Spokes - Reynolds carbon wheel.

I’m after some advice.
A nipple broke on my deep section Reynolds carbon rear wheel, upon inspection they are all badly corroded.
I’m planning to rebuild the wheel with brass nipples.
The spokes are radial straight pull round on non drive side and bladed on the drive side.
Why is that?
I might need to cut some spokes if I can’t get the nipples off.
Any reason why I can’t replace the round spokes with bladed (cx rays).
Thanks
Ben

  • Assault? Yes, you can use bladed spokes if you want to and you have experience using them. Allegedly radial NDS makes it a tad stiffer, but it's a weak argument.

  • Thanks Ugo.
Have built a few sets of wheels, using both round and bladed (not on the same wheel) but I’m slow and by no means an expert.
Any special experience needed for bladed?
  • Strike wheel btw.
  • You need something to hold them straight, like a slotted piece of wood or a dedicated tool.
The other problem is that on the NDS they will not a reach a tension that you can measure for CX-Ray or Aerolite, so there is a lot of "feel" involved

  • Yes have a bladed holder, thanks for the tip about NDS spoke tension.
