    Quiet in here isn’t it.

Busy morning back in the treadmill. Headed off to view a house later on in the afternoon, looks promising but you never know till you see it...bloody estate agents pics.

Cool Northerly today. A kg of thermite just might do the trick except it would be temporary.
Must get prepped for welder bloke to start Porker #1 job. Wahey, some movement.

Now to try and locate parcel from Germany.

What's the craic SG?. Parcel sent by DHL. Tracking number doesn't give much info. I want to see if it's in the customs queue - who do I contact as I it will be Royal Snail I pay if I pay?

I bet you they'll give me another number to call once I do actually get to one of these top notch customer services advisor.

last dhl one i had (from germany) was delivered without any delay or customs charges

if dhl is the importing agent it'll be handling any payment etc., you'll get either an email with a payment link or a letter, won't onward ship until paid

if online tracking isn't helpful, you can try calling, but it probably won't shed much light on things

progress also depends on how good the seller was with the documentation

Joking aside, have a COVID plan if you catch it whilst away. We had zero food and drink in, we now have a full freezer just in case (normally don’t use the freezer)

Morning folks, not so traditional slow start was enjoyed as I have the day off. I'm not working again until September. Shame that's tomorrow.
I had a consignment of 150 carb balancers shipped from Germany by DHL, then parcelfarce took over in the UK. One box was delivered fine, the other said the address was wrong. Contacted them by email to be told only the sender can change the delivery address. I pointed out that it's the same address I was merely clarifying, also how do 2 parcels on the same invoice get split in such a way that 1 can be delivered and the other not? Only the sender can change...
Contacted the sender, they contacted DHL. Turned out having told me they wouldn't take my instructions, they had. The parcel had been delivered an hour previously. But weeks after the first. Utterly shambolic.
Anyway, had some good news from the old dear, she found my dad's watch that had been lost, thought stolen. A Jaeger le Coultre alarm watch from about 1970.

The times I've imported stuff, the DHL tracking usually gives a decent summary of where the package is. I have had a couple of times where they delivered it then sent the bill - maybe they could see I had paid promptly in the past?

😁 DHL were fine, unfortunately in the UK mine went to parcelfarce, Piña could have a similar issue if it's not because they know him.

I'm praying it wasn't handed over to parcel farce.
I've had items from the US and paid the local sorting office the duty.

Good news V. Given the make, you might want to put it somewhere safe. Here's a similar one on Fleabay:

Nice watch, V! I’ve always had a hankering to collect nice watches and fountain pens. Can’t quite get started though (I do have a very nice 1946 Parker vacumatic pen, though - that’s a start!).

Nothing much here. Treated the kids to McDonald’s brekkie, been to work work for a couple of hours, just about to brush my teeth for a visit to the dentist then not sure what I’ll do for the rest of the day.

Last time I used them they managed to mess it up and it was UK to UK. Would have been quicker and cheaper to drive the parcels to the destinations myself.

(4 identical parcels sent next day to the same address, took 5 days including a weekend, tracking showed that they all took different routes).

Don't you need them intact so you can defrost when required?
    Just don't refreeze after defrosting.

Freezer's usually well stocked with food but I don't normally keep escorts in storage at home so might have to sort out a plan for that.

John, PM me if you you want a few of Stevo's top tips (bit like Viz top tips but less sensible) on where to start with watch collecting. Hayden has a few as well but I haven't seen him on here for a good while.

Probably cheaper. Now that you mention it, I have a cracking collection of Bics and HBs which I keep finding at the back of my desk drawer or down the back of my sofa :)

I’ve got a load of pens you can have. Some have lids. The others have probably dried out but they’re still pretty colours.

Oh you lot!! The 1946 Parker is getting pretty valuable now, writes beautifully and Mrs GTi bought me a very nice Faber Castell for my 50th. Also have a Cross that’s not quite as nice but was also a present. I’ve started keeping an eye out on pen restoration sites, I quite like the idea of fiddling and repairing stuff. To the point where I’ve just restored my Parker to life - involved making a rosin-based sealant! Fun times.
