Hello yes simple question but I am struggling..
I am trying to remove the pedals from my GIANT Defy 4 year 2014
Which has an FSA Tempo 34/50 Crank.
Looking at a Youtube video it says a 15 inch spanner should be able to remove my pedals however it does not fit.
Should I be using a spanner or an allen key how do I know what tool to use?

allen key goes on the inside if it has the holes otherwise just buy pedal spanner or borrow from the lbs in return for four cans of beer and a packet of pork scratchings.
remember they both turn the same way..The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

I’m trying to imagine a 15” spanner. 😂
Good advice given already. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Over the top of the pedal axle, towards the back of the bike - for both pedals - to remove. The opposite to install.MattFalle said:remember they both turn the same way.

A small trick is just to loosen one slightly before loosening the other, that way you get someone to stand on the first pedal to stop the cranks moving to allow you to loosen the second.
allen bit and breaker bar work well as well. if you don't have one ask Masjer for the one he does stem nuts up with..The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

Shouldn't need a breaker bar, but some LBS - even ones I trust - do tighten them too much, IMO.Ben

shouldn't but if they have been on there for ages/no greaee/done up too tight initially why get a sweat on when a breaker bar will do it easy doors?Ben6899 said:Shouldn't need a breaker bar, but some LBS - even ones I trust - do tighten them too much, IMO.

A 15mm spanner and a dead blow hammer ( if it’s a bit stiff ) should do it. Spray some penetrating oil into the threads as well, if they are a bit wedged.0

I wouldn't hammer anything on carbon components.
Surefire way to require a new crankset as the insert will give. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Fair point, well made. My initial Google indicated carbon but they are indeed alloy.Ncovidius said:
I don’t think the cranks are carbon on these bikes though, are they?pblakeney said:I wouldn't hammer anything on carbon components.

Hammer away but it shouldn't be required with the right spanner. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Tbh, it sounds like he's mashed them already so allen key tbrough the back.
there may also not be enough of a gap betwixt pedal and crank arm to get a normal spanner in so therefore ipso facto pedal spanner.
however, if alea jacta est......The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.
