Cracked frame at BB and crank

Hi all

I have a 2018 carbon Koga Kimera and recently noticed a wiggle on right peddle. Long story short, there's a crack in the Ultegra crank and in the frame around the BB. It's never been crashed or bashed. I'm 85 kg and FTP of 277 with a one time output of 600w, so I'm not exactly Marc Cav here... I use the bike on an indoor Kickr trainer.

Looks like the frame is covered by warranty but this seems odd. Any ideas?

Cheers

Martyn

Don't some manufacturers void the warranty if used on a trainer or is that an old wives tale?

Seems odd that the crank and frame have both cracked. This does suggest some misadventure.

    Just apply for warranty return.

no one on here works for Kuota and so only Kuota's warranty department can give you a definitive answer.

  • It's with the manufacturer at the moment for an assessment. There's been no crash or anything to obviously cause this. I can't imagine I can deliver the power required to do this .

Could just be a frame failure.

    it happens

    don't over think it.

Am I the only person who can see the words "ultegra" "crank" and "crack" in the original post?

So am I the only one who considers this to be more than coincidence?

  • I had a drive side crank strip off due to bonding failure, though I'd never heard of it it's more common than I knew .

It's a known issue. I've had one go like they do on all the YouTube videos.

But his frame has also cracked. Possibly also a known failure mode. After all every manufacturer has product failures from time to time.

But for both things to go on the same bike at the same time? What are the odds?

Also, the crank and BB are in somewhat related areas of the bike aren't they...
