Amusing you say?Stevo_666 said:Amusing rationale in a recent paper article about the reason for the U-turns:
"Forget the four steps of the Prime Minister’s roadmap. You don’t need a PhD to understand the formula of how every single government U-turn has come about.
Step 1: Mr Johnson, conscious of the economic calamity being caused by lockdown and mindful of the timebomb of non-Covid conditions waiting to explode, calls for restrictions to be lifted.
Step 2: Modellers release a worse-case scenario suggesting the NHS is in danger of being overwhelmed, if not now, then certainly by winter.
Step 3: Scientific group thinkers perhaps motivated by a self-interest in lockdown that may have been influenced by socialist tendencies take to the airwaves insisting that the “irresponsible” Prime Minister is unnecessarily putting lives at risk.
Step 4: The unions and opposition mobilise to suggest the #Toryscum of a Government is getting it wrong, aided by a largely Left-leaning Twitterati of middle-class armchair experts who quite like working from home.
Step 5: Those with a dissenting view who dare to suggest the modellers may be overegging it are denounced as quacks while a letter, signed by their detractors, is submitted to the BMJ or The Lancet warning against the “dangerous and unethical” ditching of masks and social distancing.
Step 6: Increasingly concerned by the growing media backlash, and persuaded by polling which unsurprisingly suggests that a terrified public is afraid of being lifted out of lockdown, Mr Johnson backs down."
Step 4 sounds strangely familiar
Care to highlight the relevant parts?
I'm sure there has been discussion before about right wing comedy / comedians.
Seems to have stirred up a few armchair experts...
I guess that could be amusing if the criticism of the government was solely agenda driven.
Unfortunately, the government has been pretty shit and has deserved a lot of criticism.0 -

Rick, I see you've moved from hiding behind a sofa to hiding behind an armchair. I guess point 4 flushed you outrick_chasey said:"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
It's missing step 71

Also, this Johnson cove sounds a wrong 'un from the way his decision making process is described there.0

Scientific group thinkers influenced by socialist tendencies? Phuck me! Talk about paranoia, I thought the liberals were bed wetters hiding behind sofas 😂2

Blind faith rosette worshippers accusing the scientific community of group think does belong in the irony thread.0

If it is a serious article then it helps to explain the thought processes of the, for want of a better expression, "covid-deniers"0 -

I assumed it was the cancers that haven't been caught early, but could be the backlog. Either way, I can't see why more covid helps.rick_chasey said:Regarding the " timebomb of non-Covid conditions" - what is that actually about?

I find increasingly there a whole separate lexicon of references and phrases when you read things like the telegraph nowadays.

Probably, though correct me if I'm wrong, I don' think there are many young people reading the telegraph.morstar said:

It was more the bifurcation of news reporting and the discourse around it.
There are references to whole ideas and arguments that don't even leave the political bubble and so never even get debated (like the covid-timebomb).0 -
Count yourself lucky, most of the DT articles posted on here I can not tell if they are satirical.rick_chasey said:I find increasingly there a whole separate lexicon of references and phrases when you read things like the telegraph nowadays.
Does the author of that article truly think Covid is bigger up by scientists because they are all lefties and want to use it to advance their lefties agendas?
For instance if you regularly read Clarkson in the ST you know he is making a general point but talking bollox to make it0
