Macroeconomics, the economy, inflation etc. *likely to be very dull*

Many products have doubled on the spiral of opptunist bandwagon of p1$$ taking, that's the fact. Any chosen time period has fvck all to do with it from the point inflation kicked off.

CPI inflation over the last 6 months <=> 1.4% pa.
Index has increased from 129.2 to 130.0 over that period.
Bailey will be penning his letter to Hunt explaining why inflation has undershot target soon!

So we should expect to see lower interest rates soon then!

Yes long term forecasts are down quite a bit eg 10 year gilt is around 3.50% today whereas it was mote than 4.5% not long ago. All still low historically.

It looks like IR's will start to be cut this year. I can't see them going for ZIRP again though. The only way a home to live price will become affordable for young people is if Labour (when they're elected this year) really do keep their promise and back house building policies.

If they use the forecasts to justify tax cuts, they should be forced to campaign on the 5 year spending plans that underpin them when it comes to the election.

5 years plans. Mwhahahah. 🤣🤣🤣
Who saw where we are now 5 years ago?
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

The current plans are to cut real terms spending on everything by 2.3% per year, for the three years from 2025-26, excluding only the NHS, "core school spending", foreign aid, defence and 30 hours free childcare.

Total fantasy.

As I’ve mentioned before the wealth of the City of London was built on the workers and natural resources of places like the South Wales and northern England (plus the wider Empire of course). It’s now payback time.

At least one person thinks it's true. Or at least pretends to.

There'll be more. Not enough to win an election but enough that they'll hang on till the last breath.

"The chancellor said the lack of detail was because plans are decided and reliant on a government spending review which, he disclosed on Wednesday, will not be done until after the general election. The last spending review was in 2021."
How very convenient. "Here's what I want to spend but I won't know how much money I'll have to spend until I am out of the job."
Total fantasy C(h)unt.

A long standing nickname for the current chancellor of the exchequer. The "h" is silent.

At least I've learnt what a 'chode' is now. Not a word I've used in lessons.

All those late nights putting his tax cuts together must have involved a lot of treats: he was up early on budget day for a 17-mile run. This despite the 57-year-old being told by countless orthopaedic surgeons when he was health secretary that you really shouldn't run past the age of 40
He should go back to being health minister as well, a good example.

He should have sacked the surgeons for talking bollox e.g. https://www.rnoh.nhs.uk/news/marathon-running-effect-knees (I assume the orthopaedic surgeons are only commenting in respect of their speciality).

I think he's really lucky. Wish I could run.

It is an interesting one with joints. I think some people can be genetically lucky with alignment and natural biological repair. Being too heavy damages joints, sitting around can damage joints, diet, acidity in the system... I know a couple of people who have kept their body weight down but been agnostic towards exercise yet still have required hip operations earlier on in their lives.

Time to party, we're in growth and out of recession. Not sure what I'll spend my new found wealth on. I suspect the Government will now campaign on how teh economy is growing (unless the usual correction pisses on their chips as 0.2% is definitely within the margin of correction).

European stock markets fell on Monday following steep drops in Asia amid fears that the US economy is heading for a slowdown.
In London, the FTSE 100 index fell by 2.1% while in Paris the CAC-40 dropped by 2.2% and Frankfurt's DAX slid by 2.4%.
Earlier, Asian markets plummeted, with Japan's Nikkei 225 down 12.4% or 4,451 points in the biggest fall by points in history.

I know today's another day, but that's quite the historic drop.
