Hi guys my name is grooveboy.
When I was a kid we would build bikes from whatever we found in the hood and I remember building a 15 speed bike once back in the late seventies.
Now I just bought a used 21 speed mountain bike that I want to kind of customize and wanted to know is there such a bike or a series of parts to allow me to build one past 21 speeds and if there is, what is the highest speed bike, or I would guess the largest geared bike that I could build ?
Thanks

triple on front, 12 speed on the back..
The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

The highest gear bike would be a combination of a hub gear with a front triple. So for example a 13 speed hub combined with a triple up front would give you a theoretical 39 speed bike but there would be many over lapping gears.
Sheldon Brown made a 60+ gear bike using mechs and hub gears for fun but again overlap.
In terms of highest speed bike do you mean the largest (hardest) gear? That would be one of the old track bikes they had massive front chain rings like 104t!! But in reality you would need to be going 30+ MPH to even get a decent cadence on such a thing
In terms of 'usable' gears you don't really need many - Some will say 1! a 2x10 or 1x11 setup done to fit your environment should give all the gears you ever need.0 -
Tbh though, if you have enough time/money/energy anything is possible..
