Prescription riding glasses?

Seriously, if ALL you need is a reader for your phone/ Garmin etc then the cheapest solution is to buy a pair of Hydrotac stick in lenses. They simply stick in using water. They can be removed, swapped to a different pair of glasses if you change, or repositioned until you are happy with them.secretsam said:Thanks all - I might chat with an optician about whether it's worth bothering with Rx varifocals; my main problem is reading my phone, etc out on a ride - I can 'see' fine
I have photochromic Oakley Radar EV Path sunglasses, which have a superb ‘transition’ type lens and for £17 delivered from eBay I simply stick in the Hydrotac lenses. Placed bottom centre of each side of the lens means unobstructed distance vision and I can simply glance down to read my Garmin. Fair enough I have to lift my head up and peer down at the cafe menu, but I can live with that!

I find that in the riding position, even in the hoods, that "ordinary" sun glasses and you kind of peer over the top of them. Cycling sunglasses ride higher on the face and are much better. Or maybe that's just me....!dennisn said:Not sure you actually need "riding" glasses, unless you just can't bear not being pro looking. I've used regular sunglass' from my local optician for decades. I think you've got to ask yourself why you need something called "riding" glasses. Any good pair of sunglasses should do.
At 53 I'm getting to the stage I can't read my bike computer so I need to investigate some kind of bifocal arrangement for both with and without contact lenses.0 -
I've ridden bicycles for decades with prescription bi-focal sunglasses and never felt the need to buy "cycling type" sunglasses.ibr17xvii said:dennisn said:Not sure you actually need "riding" glasses, unless you just can't bear not being pro looking. I don't think that's true at all. Cycling glasses are designed for cycling, normal sunglasses aren't.0 -
You didn’t happen to star in the Fast Show did you Dennis. “ You don’t want to do it like that”0

I'd second that - bought some prescription photochromatic Rudy Rydons from them and had them reglazed by them a couple of years later for a new prescription. Couldn't have been more helpful and very quick too. There is some 'digital mapping' voodoo to get the prescription on an extremely curved lense, but it works.leedsmjh said:Recently used these guys and would recommend.
