Campagnolo setup
HI,
I just acquired a 2012 Wilier Izoard with a 10 speed campagnolo record groupset: 53/39 and 11/25.
The reason I got the bike was its price....
I'd like to change it for an easier ride since I am not as fit as I used to, and I live in a hilly part of Scotland.
The bike rolls on Campagnolo shamals.
What would be the cheapest and smoothest option? 12/30 or 13/29 at the back? Or change the Cranks: 175 mm (Record Carbon) 39-53 at the moment.
Thank you in advance.

I think you'll find the rear mech wont take a cassette bigger that 28-29 only the newer models can go 30+ your best bet is a 29T cassette and swap the chainset for a 50/34TRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0 -
Cassette is cheaper than cranks and generally more effective at reducing gear ratios. If you gain 5 teeth at the back, it's like losing 7-8 at the front on the easiest gear... and at the front you can only lose 5.left the forum March 20230

I have 2015 Athena and it works fine with a 30 tooth Shimano cassette on my turbo.
29 max is recommended but 30 works. Cheapest option would be a 29 or 30 cassette. Best would be a combination of that and a compact chainset. Said as someone who has that setup. 😉The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -
Thank you both, I will look into changing the cassette to a 13/29T first and give it a try.
I'd really like to avoid changing the crankset... But if I have to i will.
Is it reasonable to try and change the inside ring only or would that cause too much stress on the chain and make it jump?0 -
I think changing the inner ring would be too big a gap and I doubt you'll get a smaller one to fit anyway. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I run a 12-30 Campag cassette on a 2012 Chorus mech and it works fine, and I don't think you can go smaller than 38 on the chain-set.0

ok, i guess i'll try oth a 12/30 and 13/29 and see how it goes.
thanks a lot everybody0 -
Is there a 30 tooth 10 speed cassette for Campag? I don't think Miche even made one (I may be wrong).0

I didn't think there was one either and had to have a look in the spare parts catalogue - the 2013 catalogue has a Centaur 10sp with 24/27/30 cluster. So they were made, however, I suspect actually finding one will be the challenge.jpj84 said:Is there a 30 tooth 10 speed cassette for Campag? I don't think Miche even made one (I may be wrong).
Miche also make a 30 tooth one in their Supertype range so this would be the OP's best bet if a 30 tooth is required.
Also worth noting is that the BCD of the 39/53 chainsets is different to the 34/36 50/52 so you would likely need a third party inner ring if that's all you were changing and the shift will probably not be as crisp.0 -
I have one so it certainly does exist, probably hard to come by now though, have a look at thecycleclinic page, you can make up a Miche one in whatever ratios you want for about 60 quid.jpj84 said:Is there a 30 tooth 10 speed cassette for Campag? I don't think Miche even made one (I may be wrong).

drop the chainrings to 50/38 from TA or stronglight (do not lose the hidden bolt if its a 5 arm set) and go to 13/29. You might get away with a 30 cog but you would have to try it0
