Components - even on used market - appear so much more expensive these days?

Pondered upgrading my current ultrega 9000 to dura ace 9100 groupset, however, none appear available from the usual shopping and retail channels: Ive found some listed on ebay for astronomical prices.
I guess this is doing to the pandemics effect on cycling's increased popularity and, to and extent, brexit? I upgraded my last bikes groupset from 6800 to 9000 in the summer of 2016 after sourcing a little used set very reasonably - that definitely doesn't look to be the case today!

people trawling ebay for cheap high quality bike parts - who would have thought it? But with the supply of new stock limited the used or nos market is going to see a rise.

Was that the email with prices starting at £1550.00 and rising to £2300.00!!

Think I'll use the 8 speed triple bike!

Must admit I was looking at replacing my 11 speed cassette on the good bike but looking at the current prices I may make it last a bit longer!

    I blame wiggle.

If the rumoured takeover goes ahead then I think all of us will be blaming wiggle (if it causes prices to increase even more)

AliExpress are worth checking out if people want to get some bargains, there are many sites which are dedicated to reviewing the components they sell on there (like TraceVelo on youtube). Delivery seems to be about 10days to the UK.

I am currently building up an old 90s steel bike and been looking around for components to put on it, basically going to replace everything except the frame and possibly the brakes. I ordered the new Sensah Empire Groupset, which has been getting some good reviews online (they are a Chinese company started by some ex-SRAM engineers). It is lighter than 105, but at about 1/3 the price.

Ironic that wigglecrc acquired the German online retailer bike24 in 2017 only to sell it back two years later and is now the target of a German takeover itself!

The latest Sensah stuff gets good reviews across the board tbh - meant to be a bit fiddly to set up the rear mech but once done its bonzer, fam.

    Duplicated for some reason...

Cake Stoppers will be well aware of my opinion of Brexit but to add some context I see one of the big (non dutch-) bike shops* in The Hague has just posted that he'd closing because he just can't get stock at the moment. Neither bikes nor parts.

The difference is that this is the new norm for us whereas post Covid the Dutch & German shops will be back to normal

(* to be clear - an actual shop, not an online store)

We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Buy them on holiday (if you can ever get there), attach them to your bike when you're out there and smuggle them back.

Be patient. In 2022 there will be a glut of dusty, rarely used bikes and clothing.
