Insurance for recovery/ repair of bicycle

Hi everyone

I'm relatively new to cycling but want to do more of it to improve fitness and wellbeing.

Unfortunately I am not particularly mechanically minded and wondered if anyone has experience of insurance for bikes to cover mechanical breakdown when out and about or recovery so that the insurer can get your bike to your home or a repair shop.

Thank you

You can get it but one month premiums are the same as a course on how to be more mechanically minded.

You'd be surprised at how simple bikes are and how rarely they go wrong.

Ringing for a taxi would probably be cheaper.

What they have said plus you can learn a lot at home just by having a look at YouTube.

GCN and Park Tools have maintenance and repair videos.

I’ll second what was said above. You need to know how to remove a wheel and fix a puncture as a bare minimum to prevent yourself from being stranded. Being able to remove wheels also means you can probably fit your bike into a saloon taxi boot on the rare occasion that you do get stranded!

That’s interesting. What it doesn’t mention is how long from call out to pick up. They say from ‘any road in Britain’, but one can only imagine how many hours that may be from somewhere in the middle of nowhere. I guess it depends on who they are using to provide the pickup service (AA, GREENFLAG, UBER, individuals with vans etc) and how dispersed they are around the country...

If you subscribe to Strava Premium you are covered for mechanical breakdown which covers your taxi fare home.

Halfords offer a gold service which post service you can buy a cycle care package which covers all labour costs for a year.

You may want to self insure, just put a monthly amount to one side to cover breakdowns and running costs. The benefit here is if nothing is needed to you keep the cash.

Cytech run a home mechanics course which will build your knowledge quickly so you’re self sufficient and does away for the need of insurance

One of the most lucrative businesses is insurance.......just ask Warren Buffet.

Repair shops aren't that worth it right now. I'd suggest checking companies that could cover everything for you. I don't know a lot about that system, but it would be better instead of paying the shops. The first website I found in the ads was sundaysinsurance.com so that you could check it. The company seems to be decent, and I didn't expect services like that. I thought that you get your bike repaired. I was mistaken about that.
