Hi and welcome. Your crankset uses the same Hollowtech II bottom bracket as Shimano cranks so a Deore bb will be a compatible (and probably a slightly better quality) replacement for your Suntour bb.
I bought the exact same one from here and it's a genuine Shimano, boxed bb with all the relevant spacers you will need included:-

Nice one mate . I have ordered that also my chain set shaft is completely loose and has alot of play in it I am guessing in the above picture I need that chainset?1
-
No worries Pal.😎 The pic and description of your cranks was just to show the internal shaft and that it's compatible with Hollowtech II bb's.
Don't order any crankset. Highly likely the play is only coming from your worn bottom bracket.
Could be water and dirt ingress to the ball bearings inside the bb causing the grinding sound and eventually the play you can feel.
Fit the bb properly following the instructions in the box and then when you fit the crankset back on it should be smooth, solid and like new again.👍0 -
That shaft is completely loose on the chain set bud

That's unusual and not heard of that happening before. Looks like you will need a new crankset too.
In that case I would suggest not going for the same piece of sh#t one you have there. I'd take a look for a good quality and similar Shimano Hollowtech II crankset (in stock if possible) and your probably looking at around a £100 price tag.0 -

Would this fit at all ..I cant find the Sr suntour chainset in stock anywhere0 -
Something like this for example. It has a slightly different tooth count on the chainrings but nothing too drastic that you'll notice:-

If you decide on this one you'll just need to reposition you front derailleur a little higher to accommodate the bigger diameter large chainring.0 -
Yes, not as good as a Deore but much better than the Suntour. That will do you fine even though it's a 9 speed it should work fine with your 10 speed chain. Great price and a spare bb too. Well spotted, problem solved Buddy.😎👍https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/double-chainset-9d-36-22-speed-hollowtech-ii-bottom-bracket-shimano-altus/_/R-p-201512?mc=8538594&utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=SurfacesForGoogle&utm_content=8538594-2850312&iv_=__iv_p_1_g_111786232977_c_482897796146_w_aud-910439445036:pla-308327991064_n_g_d_m_v__l__t__r_x_pla_y_15177021_f_online_o_8538594-2850312_z_GB_i_en_j_308327991064_s__e__h_1007030_ii__vi__&gclid=CjwKCAjw6fCCBhBNEiwAem5SO-BCOGCdeA8sVJuhh6ybCGNHrSvkyslW9LEi69sK38KlWXQtrJUG_xoCodEQAvD_BwE

Unfortunately it won't fit mate that 9speed0

Unfortunately it won't fit mate that 9speed0

Sorry not sure which one won't fit and in what way, the 9 speed Altus?
The Deore I linked is 10 speed and is worth the extra cash as it's better quality and well suited for mtb use.
Both will fit, the only difference is the teeth on the Altus chainrings are more suited for slightly wider 9 speed chains.0 -
So with the 9speed its 36/22 and mine on the bike is 38/24 what difference in the ride will that make ?
Sorry for the questions I am new to all this.
also the one you put up is 170mm and mine on the bike 175mm will that make a difference0 -
Hey no problem we all started somewhere.
Chainrings with less teeth are obviously smaller in diameter.
Basically going from bigger to smaller chainrings will be more noticable in highest and lowest gear. This means a slightly lower top speed and also the climbing gearing will be slightly lower too, a little bit less effort needed on a steep 1st gear climb.
Not getting into the mathematics as I wouldn't have a clue but going from 175mm to 170mm crank arm length also has the same effect the same way as chainring size changes.
All in all only a small or hardly noticable change when all fitted and nothing to worry about.
Like I said all you'll need to do is reposition the front derailleur to sit at the proper distance above the big chainring teeth.0 -
Well I have brought that bottom bracket and the tool as well and I have made an offer for the chainset you put up earlier. Thank you for this you really have helped me mate1
-
No probs Mate, a pleasure and fingers crossed on the offer.🤞1

Cheers1

So I brought the crank set went to fit it today ,fitted great but now the chain hits the front gear derailleur .I raised it slightly but its having none of it still0
-
You've fitted a new crankset and although similar won't always mean the chainring positions will be exactly the same as before. Your derailleur will probably just need some minor basic adjustments.
So the height of the derailleur has around a 2-3mn gap between the outer part of the cage and teeth on the big ring?
The derailleur cage is also positioned parallel with the chainrings?
All you need to do is unscrew the high limit screw a little to allow the derailleur to move outwards. Then unscrew (anticlockwise) the fine tune adjust on the front shifter to move the derailleur further out, then when changing from small to large chainring it will repositioned that bit further out so it clears the chain.
If the chain is rubbing on the small chainring then it's pretty much the same but unscrew the low limit screw and turn the fine tune adjust clockwise instead.0 -
OK ill have a look today .I have noticed that when I go down into low gear it hits the derailleur

When it's in high gear it doesn't want to move across no more the chain sits on the pi ss ..bleedy thing doing my head in lol1 -
I have the Team FS 2017 model , constantly having problems with the front derailleur not wanting to shift correctly no matter how well it shifted on the stand.
So I went to a single ring ! got a cheap 34t one to see how it went for me and its so much better. It's a Snail brand from ebay for £11 quid, as yet with around 200 miles on it it's fine. Didn't want to spend 30-40 quid on one to find it was too hard going for an old guy.0 -
Front derailleur set up is always a bit fiddly and frustrating @holysmokesjaysbbq just be patient and you'll get it sorted. If you're struggling in any way have a look for a You Tube tutorial. There's plenty of good vids that will help.
Once it's set up It'll be perfectly adequate until the time you may eventually decide to go 1x then you can say goodbye to having to deal with setting up front mechs, yay!😁👍0 -
So I scrapped the bike and took the whole thing apart lol .I went out and brought a specialized s works hardtail I collect it on April 15th .
Cheers for the help 👍1 -
Ha ha, one way to fix it. Enjoy the new bike.1
-
Wow, lol! Scrapping the bike and ordering a Specialised S Works instead would have been my second option! 😂
Congrats on the new bike @holysmokesjaysbbq 🥳 welcome to 1x and never looking back.😎👍0 -
He's lucky to find a bike of that quality to buy. Very lucky!1
