Am I mis-understanding something?
I read the Conti page to state that I should not fit a tyre of less than 32mm on a 20-622 rim?
So a 28mm tyre is too narrow for a 20mm wide rim?

That's how it looks to me. Well I've been riding 28's on 20 and 21mm internal width rims for ages with no issues.

That information seems contradictory to everything else I have seen.

Conti's recommendations seem to be incredibly conservative. Compare them to Schwalbe's chart, another big tyre company. Their chart feels a lot closer to reality from my experience.

Continental are in line with ETRTO which is very conservative. That's why I shared the study from Mavic... which I believe ETRTO are going to adopt.

Agreed re the Schwalbe chart as well.
