Do I need new tyres?

Afternoon all,

this bike is my gf's., not had much use overall, some time on the turbo, but both tyres it looks to be have a lot of sidewall cracking.

I have some venerable Durano pluses waiting in the wings to be fitted, just wanted to find out if anyone else would ride, or let someone else ride, with tyres that looked like this?

PSI circa 80, nothing outlandish - they are both 25s or maybe 28s.

It's a Fuji something or other, hydraulic discs.

If it were me I'd fit the new tyres.
I'd also fit new tubes while I had the tyres off.

I'd been meaning to 'pop' the duranos on there for months, so now have an actual reason.
She's out first thing, so a job for tonight - fun playing with durano pluses :/

  • From what I can see, I'd still use those tyres, or at least just put them in the spares pile... But then fresh tyres can transform how a bike feels.

They won't kill her and they will be fine for the morning so no rush but if you have something to change them with why not and then save them to use on the turbo.

I would ride on those. The structural part is the casing.

Thanks for the comments and opinions, much appreciated.

Had it been my bike, I would have ridden, but I didn't want to risk it, especially with our anniversary tomorrow!

Expected a battle, but was not too bad at all, had them both changed in about 20 minutes, and got them both on without levers.
Life would have been easier with a couple of straps to keep the tyre in place, front wheel as soon as I tried the bead into the rim trick to get the slack, it just popped out and unravelled.
Rear wheel didn't exhibit that trick for some reason.

All was good on the Saturday early morning cycle :)
