Oakley Sutro S - Prizm Jade or Prizm 24k gold lenses
I have a variety of glasses, but my favourites tend to be the Radarlock, and I have some Scotts I really like, the Leap, and the Shield is the first pair of what I would call BIG glasses that I really like.
My eye has now been caught my the Sutro, but more so the Sutro S, as I have a smaller bonce than some.
I also noticed Oakley have 20% off their custom range, and have a couple of pairs of custom glasses which I have been really happy with, and one of which ended up being free!
I digress - the Sutro S is devoid of any unobtanium grippers on the arms, and I'm wondering if there are any wearers on here who find that causes issues or not?
I'm thinking of maybe buying some ear socks to add onto the arms, as long as I can find a pair with similar dimensions.
With regards to lenses, the choices are limited - all of my above have photochromic lenses, but for some reason not currently an option on these, so the two available to me are Prizm 24k gold, and Prizm Jade green.
Frustratingly the oakley lens simulator no longer exists, so was wondering if anyone had opinions on the merits and pitfalls of each of these lenses?
Thanks
Dan

Have a pair of standard Sutros, no issues for me with lack of grippers.1

I tried both pairs on today, and was surprised that the Sutros are actually the right fit.alex222 said:Have a pair of standard Sutros, no issues for me with lack of grippers.
When I compared them to my favourite Scott Shield glasses, the Sutro shades are the same size, or even a touch smaller.
They also fitted nicely with a helmet, and felt secure.
The S variety didn't seem to fit as well, or as securely, and when in the correct position up to meet the helmet, my eyelashes made contact with the lenses.
What type of frame and lens did you go for?
The Sutro had a matt frame finish, the Sutro S a gloss one, wondering if that made the arms less grippy somehow.
The frustrating thing for me now, is that the custom ones don't really have any frame colours I would want - they have the tdf yellow, but it's a bit meh really.
I could go off the peg I suppose, but I do love the retina burn, but only an option for the icons.......

Got x2 pair of Sutro's (standard), and I do feel in hot weather like they are slipping ever so slightly. I don't mean they slip to the point they're hanging off the end of my nose, but if it's warm and I'm working hard I do find myself occasionally prodding them slightly at the bridge. Doesn't put me off buying them, but it would be nice to have a small Unobtanium insert in the inside of the arm ends.1

I can't see it being a huge issue to retro fit though?pippi_langsamer-2 said:Got x2 pair of Sutro's (standard), and I do feel in hot weather like they are slipping ever so slightly. The custom range currently has 20% off, plus 8.8% back through TCB.
Brings a pair of custom sutros to about £99 delivered, which seems pretty good to me.
@pippi_langsamer-2 - what lenses do you use?Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

I think for me, just sticking some Earsocks on the arms would spoil the aesthetics and probably annoy me as the arms aren't recessed to accommodate the Earsocks like other models do. The slipping I mention really isn't such an issue tbh- it might just be me being subconsciously aware that I'm not wearing Radars EV's LOL.1

Well the Oakley site was playing it's usual games, options appearing and disappearing.
Retina burn for the frame had been unavailable up until today, so went for the purchase, with prizm black lenses - and will see how it goes with the earsocks.
Your ones that may slip a bit @pippi_langsamer-2 , are they gloss finish arms?

Yeah, they're the standards black gloss with Prizm Road lens. I also bought a pair of the ltd Edition Origins towards end of last year (Prizm Black lens), but not had chance to try those yet.0

I do like the look of the origins, just not massively taken with the colours they came in.pippi_langsamer-2 said:Yeah, they're the standards black gloss with Prizm Road lens. Now if they offered those in custom.........Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

Sorry only just spotted this. I have the Matt Black frame with Prizm Road lens. Very pleased with them. Got a great deal on them back in July 2019daniel_b said:

Hi @daniel_b or anyone with experience.
Tempted with the Sutro. Torn between prizm road and prizm road jade.
Had a cheap pair on with dark lenses yesterday and I was either dazzled by bright light or in total darkness when I hit shade.
Prizm road have an LTA of 20% decent for bright and shade maybe not great for very sunny?
Prizm road jade have a LTA of 14% ok for sunny and bright weather, not too good for shade?Pinno, מלך אידיוט וחרא מכונאי0 -
I have jawbreakers with Prizm Road and never found an issue when very sunny0

Thanks. Are they prizm roadshirley_basso said:I have jawbreakers with Prizm Road and never found an issue when very sunny
Or Prizm road black?

The pink ones. The lens colour is pretty perfect for UK riding and were great for some sunny days in the french mountains.2

Very impressed with the Prizm road lenses. Thanks.
Mine are the Prism road black ones, although at the time of year I bought them, I have yet to use them!
Oakley comprehensively ballsed up my original order, and then were unable to resolve it and simply refunded it, so I parked it for a few months, until I found some purple/green flip ones from opticians direct in the Autumn, for just under a ton.
Glad the lenses you have are working out well for youFelt F70 05 (Turbo)

Good stuff. I want them in the sapphire as I think they look badass, and I have the red lenses in my jawbreakers.

Custom should work well, but I had issue with both sets of custom glasses I ordered.seanoconn said:Badass indeed. Might go for a custom jobby next time.
First ones were radar locks, but they were on the ball and resolved that entirely to my satisfaction.
These ones were due to be a relative steal, think there was a sale on, and then ended up at £108 delivered, with £10 cashback through tcb.
They arrived with a bent frame though, and the lenses not fitted properly.
Try as I might, and I watched plenty of you tube videos, I could simply not get them to fit in the frame - it was quite frustrating.
I posted on the Oakley forum, and a few people said it was not unheard of, and that some people thought the part that held the lens was simply too shallow.
I suspect it is fine if they are fitted correctly straight from the factory though, but I certainly would not want to be changing lenses at all.
@shirley_basso are the ones above Sutro Lites lacking the frame at the bottom?Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

Yeah. You can't get the white / sapphire in full frame in the UK unless you go custom, as far as I am aware. You could also get the clear ones (ebay) and replace the lenses.1
