Choosing a seatpost.

I see plain non-suspension seatposts ranging from $20 to $275. What could possibly explain this gap? What are the factors to consider when shopping seatposts?

If the weight of the seatpost isn't an issue then just get the cheapest alloy seatpost available.
If you're replacing like for like then check to see if your current one has a setback or not before.
Carbon seatposts are more expensive but generally are lighter and also help remove road buzz a bit but there's other things such as tyres which play a much bigger role in this.0 -
Size, length, layback and affordability. Material is an irrelevance.donaltcarrick said:What are the factors to consider when shopping seatposts?

The only noticeable difference in Carbon and most alloy seat posts, for most people, are weight ( for given dimensions) and the versatility of a C.F. post in regards to exact design and shape, which can be a factor, if you need to squeeze every last Watt out, taking aero efficiency and shapes / dimensions of seat tubes into account. Anything else is pretty much marketing bluster. You’d be amazed how much some people will spend to save a few Watts / grammes. There is another thing to consider as well. Galvanic corrosion can be a right royal pain in the backside with alloy posts, as it means the seat post gets stuck, and it’s not the easiest thing to sort out when it happens.0
