No! It's terrible. £400 will buy a far better 2nd hand bike. For commuting you need a bike that takes mudguards so you can arrive at work/home and still have a sense of humour.
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

And a rack with panniers (or other luggage solution) - wearing a backpack to carry your stuff gets old, fast.0

Have just been offered a near brand new Carrera bike for 400. Just on my way to see it.0

https://www.halfords.com/bikes/hybrid-bikes/voodoo-marasa-mens-hybrid-bike----18in-20in-frames-445471.html with British Cycling 10% discount would be £405.
I've had one since last July, they've had a good spec for the money rep for years, bit heavy but it's a very functional bike with a good range of gears.
Stock was incredibly limited to buy anything when I bought it, but going on what is available now for under £600, I'd be tempted by https://www.halfords.com/bikes/hybrid-bikes/boardman-urb-8.6-urban-hybrid-bike-2021---s-m-l-frames-423974.html (~£475 with BC discount) for the hub gears and ~2Kg lighter bike compared to the Marasa.
A less upright road bike would reduce aero drag and make the trips quicker, I like the look of https://www.halfords.com/bikes/road-bikes/carrera-vanquish-mens-road-bike-2020---red---s-m-l-frames-348526.html , but customer reviews don't look great.================

There's some hilarious reviews of those Eurobikes on Amazon.
You've made a far better choice with the Carrera as that will at least work and you'll have the service from Halfords if there's any issues.1 -

I was not expecting it to be an e-bike. Well played - if you decide you want a lighter bike, you'll not lose money on that.0

Looks just the job! If you are serious about commuting and use mainly roads then you might want to invest in some less knobbly tyres that will roll better on roads etc. Schwalbe Marathon Plus's would be ideal and save you energy (and electrical energy too).
