Can you replace axle of a wheel to fit wider dropouts?

I have a fixie wheel that I wanted to use with an alloy frame. However the axel of the wheel is a bit small for the dropouts, and tightening the bolts on the wheel squeezes the dropouts by 2cm.

Is it possible to replace the axle of the wheel for a longer one so to fit the dropouts?

As per posts passim, just space it out.

Why change if you don't need to?

  • What do you mean by spacing it out? The axle is short

Do you mean basically bending the stays in/cold forging?

No, I meant changing the axle of the wheel for a longer one

See above thread - no point in double posting as you'll lose answers.

Any no, you don't need a longer axle.
