Help me choose a mtb!

Hello, I would like some advice on getting the right mtb. I want something for xc purposes largely but with some light trail capability. Don’t want an aggressive hardtail, more an all rounder that is decent on fire roads, gravel and paths through the woods. Ideal set up: a decent ish fork with around 100-120mm drop, 1 x 12 drivetrain, reasonably lightish, dropper post although can always add one later. I know I’m asking for a lot here. Ideally around £1000 but could go higher. I also know lots not available but wanted to get the research going. Thanks.

As you say, availability is the main roblem at the moment.
I assume you are looking for a hardtail so would have a look at something like the Boardman MHT 8.9, Ragley Marley, Giant Fathom or something from the Whyte 60x or 80x ranges.
