Here's the nominees for a cycling photo award that I've never previously heard of. But I know you lot like photos

I don't know how they are picked, but here's my favourite of 2020 which isn't there, by Chris Auld for Peloton magazine, which has everything:

  • Lovely photos. Good find Rich
  • Enjoyed looking through that lot, yeah great find RichN95. :)
  • That photo captures the moment perfectly - looking like he's going to crash into a wall because he can't get his jacket on!
  • The Maxime Vanheye one - is that like a "Where's wally?" for the cyclist?

I thought he was going to at the time.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

“This shot was caught during the fall season, with the beautiful colour this season is known for. I really like the contrast between the fall colours and the snow on top of the mountains and how the cyclist looks incredibly small compare to the mountains behind.”

Am I missing something? Where's the cyclist?

I can't find wally. It's really not a great photo.

To be fair, it's better when it's not cropped so you can't see the mountain! Still no cyclist tho.

    That's better as a photo...

I wonder if the ?accidental crop is further evidence that the caption is for another photo...

Its also The Dru/Aiguille Vert and I'm really very sure there's no road up there.

I really don't want to cement my reputation as a misery guts, and yes it is better, but it is still really not a good photo. I think the photographer values art over composition.

A not so cropped [or stretched] version. This I believe is a better photograph

Nice detective work - this would be better still if it were not cropped to remove the sky - that full version must exist somewhere too!

Quite a lot of mountain to get in the frame though... 2000 odd metres at least

Is it Mont Blanc (15,774 ft)?

No, the Dru (in front) and the Aiguille Verte (the higher one behind that looks lower), just up the valley "On the other side" of the mer de glace.

Read some Joe Simpson about his many epics on the Dru. Unfortunately, all of those routes fell off a few years back.

I wouldn't go that far. The trees are still dull and empty, the mountains overexposed and the sky missing. The cyclist looks nice though!

Yes, they’ve taken the decorations down now, put them back into storage. You'll have to wait till next year ;)
