Bike ID help

Greetings all. I know my quest is a long shot, but I'm over here in the US trying to ID a frame I purchased on eBay, as it appears to have been misidentified in the listing. It is steel, sized for 700C, and has mounts for both canti and disc brakes. There are also mounts for attaching a rack, so I'm guessing it wasn't a MTB. It has an unusual looking gusset between the head tube and down tube, and the headset is a 44mm integrated. There is a serial number beginning with "GW12L" stamped under the BB. 700 x 45 tires fit in the frame with room to spare.

I've posted this on several different bike forums, and have searched hundreds of images via Google to no avail. Any chance it looks familiar to someone here?

Tony

The welding isn’t great, the paint looks like it came out of a rattle can. It looks like a very generic low end, mass manufactured number to me, possibly Chinese in origin. There’s nothing terribly distinctive about it ( except perhaps the details at the drop out end of the chain stays) but I still think it’s something you’d find in a skip pretty much anywhere.

Are you sure it’s steel as they used to put those gussets on Aluminium frames, plus the welding looks like what you get on Aluminium. Aren’t most steel frames brazed or is that on higher end ones.
  • Definitely steel - a magnet clings to the frame, which weighs just under 8 pounds, or 3.6Kg.

Early 29er mtb in the years of disc/vee brakes. early 2000's and onwards from memory.

It has a few design cues from Gary fisher bikes and the wheel size maybe fits.
