You lot like smooth legs and stuff. How do you do it? What's best? Pros and cons? What lasts longest?

Dry shave with a 2 blade razor has always worked well for me.

Shaved legs look so much better though, can't imagine having hairs, even at 56.

You need a device called an Epilady which removes the hairs by pulling them out. After doing your legs with one of these, riding in to a block head wind for 50 miles will seem painless.

I just use the same razor and shave gel I use on my face. Jump in the shower first to wet legs and then apply gel and shave at bathroom sink. The foam helps you to see what bits you've done, apart from anything else. Easy to miss bits at the back of the thighs. Be careful of cutting yourself on the ankles and especially around those tendons at the back of the knees..

But no point doing it in the winter!

Doesn't it help to be bare when applying your winter embrocation? (I don't use it)

shaving sucks as its too dangerous. the MFs use Veet - slap it on, stand there for a few minutes, shower off. sorted. would al be perfect for the OP if he goes ahead. as above though, no reason not to - its all the same reasons as when you do your legs.
You’re just trying to track down the classic reviews again, aren’t you?

Well, apart from it looks better, it feels better, and you look a bit silly riding a bike with hairy legs unless you have them covered up.

  • It is nice to do and experience once but a pain to maintain. And the wife hated it as it grew back!

You can stop before you reach THAT hairy bit..... :D

    Where does it stop?
For the 99% who do do it, it shows that they are easily seduced by the idea of looking pro. A bit like "all the gear, no idea".
The reality is that unless you are throwing yourself down the tarmac on a regular basis, which is a bl**dy stupid thing to do, there is only a miniscule advantage to be gained, so why bother.
Far better to lose a few lbs that create a real advantage and work on ones bike handling skills so that you are not forever crashing.

    Ladies however.....

For what it's worth I used to maintain / work on the line that manufactured immac / veet and its the only line we put protective gear and barrier cream on to stop losing any hair, body or otherwise. Yuk. Man up go as nature intended.

There's no shaved/unshaved option in Zwift so no gains to be had.

Good find that man! Just thinking that Veet is a bit environmentally and socially wrong, so have been threading everywhere but as work is now getting v busy haven't got time to do it so looking for alternatives.

    Be a man.
Own your hairy legs and fëck the vain.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

  • Laser removal?
  • Proper laser removal should do a man's legs. Not one of those DIY things.

So what happens to hirsute men like me? My legs are hairy but so is my arse. I know! TMI!! I’d have to shave my bum, back and stomach otherwise I’d look like I have “hamster pants” or even a “hair baby grow”! It would NOT be a good look :D

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Same argument aplies to shaving your face, or cutting your hair. It's all culture (general culture vs. subculture in this case).

It is mandatory if your beard comes in ginger though. 😉
Especially so if you are bald, that is a baaaad combination.

Sure, I'm not stopping anyone who wants to shave their legs as long as we're all agreed that it's purely for aesthetic rather than any performance of practical purpose.

Also, the jury seems to be out on significant aero benefits. Didn't Specialized find quite a big difference in a wind tunnel recently? It certainly feels faster (I fully accept that may or may not be entirely psychological), and might be significant if you do TTs.
  • I had to shave my "special area" before visiting the "nut cracker suite" and have kept it trim since. Feels nice under lycra ;)
