Should i sell my Hardtail???

I have a 8 year old Boardman Hardtail, which is still in great condition which I have advertised for sale, I’ve managed to snag an Orange Five FS for a great price hence thinking i should move on the Hardtail. My dilemma is the bike i have advertised for a couple of hundred quid, I’m now thinking is it worth me selling it, I’ve had loads of people contacting me over the bike, i don’t really need the money and it could still be good to have a FS and a HT to be able to use depending on what ride i feel like on the day. The other thing i could sell the HT and then in the spring get another HT via the companies BTW scheme i suppose which would be around £800-£1k?

What would you do?

  • Keep the Boardman.

New bikes will be in limited supply next year and prices are likely to escalate somewhat, so any new bike is going to cost you even more when you already have one that owes you nothing.

If nothing else you have a pub bike if we are ever allowed back in 'em.

Thanks guys, I’m glad you have both said that tbh, its too nice and its being a great bike over the years and still to my eyes nothing wrong with it for a few more, just messaged the guy who was going to pick it up today telling him I’m keeping it...
  • I have a 20-odd year old Klein that still serves me great to this day as a general workhorse/pub bike etc.
It was considered the dogs danglies when new.
Buying and keeping up with ever changing fashions is what keeps the bike industry going, but in the end a bike is just a bike regardless of how much it cost and what shiny parts are on it.

    Good decision, imo.

I wish I'd kept my first MTB hardtail. It was a cracking bike. And by now it would have come in for my grandson. But several years ago a mate of mine cast envious eyes over it for his son's birthday. So I sold it to him and shipped it off. Then he only went and died on me (poor sod), so I never got paid! I didn't have the heart to chase his widow for £663.17 (yes, I can still remember!)
  • I have regretted selling many of my old bikes and still wish I had them.
Don't do it keep it and treasure it ;)
  • I had the same dilemma recently albeit with a more expensive hardtail.

Keep the hardtail for winter riding, all that mud and slop kills bearings very quickly, and its always nice to have a "Spare" bike that you can use if the other is out of action.

Lucky bugger , a Klein is on my list of retro bikes I want.

I got my Rockhopper , now watching for a Rock Lobster....

  • Good choice keeping it I’d say, a buddy of mine got himself a nice full sus which became his “nice bike” with the HT now being his winter bike, he has since converted the HT to a single speed and loves it even more than ever now

Has given me devilish ideas for when I can stump up for a nice full sus

i have a few cannondales from the early 2000s and can't bear to think about selling them rather put them in the loft than get rid
