Should I replace my forks?

Hi all

I have a 2013 Tek 1.5 (bought from new, now for winter use only). Some of the paint has come away from the back of the Al crown at the top of the forks and some other paint is "bubbling up".

My lbs said its nothing to worry about as the paint bubbling up is not over the carbon blades, is just where some water has got under the missing paint and corroded over the Al crown

So that was advice given in the context of potential concern over the carbon blades per se - i.e. I was told "don't worry". However, I have read some horror stories on-line about the failure of Al-carbon steering crown-fork assemblies

So -
1] Do people think I should be concerned about missing paint over the al steering crown part of the fork? e.g. does that imply the forks are on the road to an eventual "fail"

2] Any thoughts on how long should forks last (bike is >7 years old) - is there a general feeling "replace forks whatever the look like every x years" (especially if Al-C bonded assembly)?

Thanks!

  • If you are worried about them try Westbrooks. I bought a scott carbon fork for my daughters specialised for £50. And a free hat.
