SRAM rival front disc brake leaking fluid
My Rival front hydraulic disc brake is leaking fluid out of the hole the hose goes into at the top. I took out the hose and the olive and it all looks fine. didnt seem to be any damage. But still leaks.
Any tips for stopping it coming out? have ordered a new olive and barb to see if that helps. Could the caliper itself have a problem?

You may have a damaged calliper body, they are really easy to over tighten and damage however it is probably a connection issue.
Certainly you should replace the olive and barb to be sure of achieving a good connection, it may solve your problem. plus they need changing as a matter of course if you remove the cable from the calliper.
Also ensure the threads are clean and use DOT grease. NB the torque is 8nm
Most people manage to tighten the nut just enough with a flare spanner or standard open ended spanner. if you have brought an official SRAM bleed kit it will have an 8mm crowsfoot flare included. This will allow you to tighten accurately to "just enough but not too much" using your torque wrench.
refitting with a new olive properly is likely to solve the problem. however, check carefully that your leak isnt at the shifter and the brake fluid is making its way down the hose.......
Whilst you are waiting for your barb and olive to arrive remove your wheel and brake pads to avoid dot fluid getting on either.0 -
hi david thanks for the great response. got my new olive/barb combo so will have a go on that tonight. i dont have torque wrench suitable for the nut that goes into the calliper. will just have to do it by hand. I hope this fixes it. fed up of contaminated pads and bleeding brakes.1

Just use common sense and remember the calliper is made of aluminium not steel.sabgla said:hi david thanks for the great response. got my new olive/barb combo so will have a go on that tonight. i dont have torque wrench suitable for the nut that goes into the calliper. will just have to do it by hand. Took the olive off last night and there was wispy bits of white hose liner showing between the barb and the hose. Maybe this is causing the leak as there is not a good seal between the barb and the hose. Need to cut a little bit off the hose and then put in a new barb. fingers crossed that fixes it!0
